Faculty of Health Sciences Women's Symposium 2022
Building Alliances for the Future
Thursday, March 31st, 2022, from 12:30-5:00pm EDT
Women remain underrepresented as leaders in academia and healthcare settings. To close this gap, cultural change and contributions from all involved in these spheres will be important - whether that is existing women in leadership or those seeking to be allies for women aspiring to hold positive experiences. The 2022 Womenβs Symposium will be a venue where we can bring together all individuals (both women and their allies) to consider how we might close the persistent gender gap within our work environments.
All faculty members who identify as women and allies of women within the Faculty of Health Sciences (and beyond) are invited to join us. For more information, head to the event page, here: bit.ly/MacPFD-FHSWomen22

Heather Waters is an associate professor within the Department of Famiy Medicine at McMaster University. Heather is a family physician with interests in medical education, leadership, communication, physician wellness and medical humanities. She is also the Hamilton Site Director for Family Medicine and Chair of PGME Education Advisory Board.
Author Brene Brown defines a leader as "anyone who takes responsibility for recognizing the potential in people and ideas, and has the courage to develop that potential".
In this book, Brene Brown explores challenges and misconceptions related to leadership, and provides practical strategies for those looking to optimize their effectiveness as leaders by promoting authenticity, humanism, connectedness, curiosity, and courage. This resource has helped me to better embrace discomfort and difficult conversations, and to continually nurture a growth mindset. I highly recommend it to all who aspire to lead and teach! |
