Originally presented as part of MacPFD14, on May 25th, 2021

Dr. Jennifer Kanapicki Comer

Mark Lee
Mark Lee is a research project manager for the McMaster Education Research, Innovation & Theory (MERIT) program, and a sessional instructor with the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) program Child Health Specialization at McMaster.
In the spirit of Pride Month, it is important to take a moment and reflect about how we can continue to recognize and support marginalized individuals in the spaces/systems we navigate and the roles we play within our institutions. This speech entitled "Queering Leadership" by Zena Sharman offers brilliant insights into how one conceptualizes their own understanding of being a leader, especially as queer and trans people, and implores us to re-think the current status quo of leadership practices.

This moving autobiography illustrates the very human sides to addiction, homelessness, generational trauma and the struggles of Indigenous people in Canada. If we do not face, understand and confront the great damage settlers have done to Indigenous people, we cannot begin to work towards reconciliation.

Should be required reading for all Canadians and particularly those in medical leadership.
